2/26/2022: The Worcester Common Oval Ice-Rink is closed for public skating for the season. Thank you for your support and we look forward to seeing you in December 2022!

As temperatures start to drop and the holiday season quickly approaches, the Worcester Common Oval Ice-Skating Rink, located behind Worcester City Hall, is set to reopen on Saturday, November 27th at 1:00 p.m. The grand re-opening of the Oval Ice-Skating Rink will also be commemorated during the city's Festival of Lights holiday celebration and tree lighting scheduled for Friday, December 3rd beginning at 4:30 p.m.

The 12,000-square-foot rink, which is 4,000 square feet larger than the size of the Rink at Rockefeller Center, is complete with amenities, including piped-in music, skate rentals, concessions provided by The Dogfather, holiday lights and more, making it a fun and affordable family-friendly activity.

Programming for the season is underway and will include a number of activities for attendees of all ages, including: Chanukah On Ice on Sunday, November 28th, a screening of “Christmas On Ice,” the Lifetime holiday movie filmed in Worcester on Friday, December 10th, an appearance by the Harlem Globetrotters in mid-December, along with additional activities to posted on worcestercommonoval.com and the Oval’s Facebook page at @worcestercommonoval throughout the season.

Regular hours of operation will be Fridays 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., Saturdays and Sundays 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. The Oval will be open for daytime skating during school vacation weeks in December and February, as well as on New Year’s Day and Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. The rink will be closed between Thursday, December 23rd through Saturday, December 25th.

Admission for skating is $5.00 and free for children ages 5 and younger. Skate rentals and MCPHS Little Helpers (learn to skate assist devices) will also be available for $5.00.

A limited number of free parking spaces are available on a first-come, first-served basis in the garage located beneath City Hall.

“It is exciting to have the Worcester Common Oval reopen to the public this year,” said City Manager Edward M. Augustus, Jr. “Skating on the Oval has become a winter tradition in Downtown Worcester. It is a family-friendly activity that creates a real sense of excitement and energy, and I thank ASM Global and all their community partners and sponsors for providing such a great opportunity for people.”

The operation of the rink is a private-public partnership that continues to garner widespread support, with  sponsors and partners signing-on to assist with the financial and operational costs associated with the rink for a three-month period including premiere sponsors: ASM Global, the College of the Holy Cross, DCU – Digital Federal Credit Union, and the Worcester Railers Hockey Club.
