POSITION:               Staff Accountant

REPORTS TO:         Senior Accountant

FLSA STATUS:        Non-Exempt



SMG, the leader in privately managed public assembly facilities, has an immediate opening for a full-time Staff Accountant at the DCU Center in Worcester, MA 01608

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Performs general ledger account reconciliations
  • Prepares event settlements and invoices in accordance with license agreements
  • Generates journal entries and event sales journals and enters them into the Microsoft Solomon accounting system
  • Assists Senior Accountant with preparation of financial reports
  • Audits various finance related functions and procedures
  • Reconciles cash receipts and disbursements
  • Maintains and updates various Excel schedules
  • Assists with various projects relating to accounting, box office, payroll and human resources
  • Other duties as assigned

Education and/or Experience

Associates degree in Accounting is required; bachelor’s degree in Accounting is preferred


Skills and Abilities

Prior experience working in an accounting department preferred

Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail

Ability to prioritize and adhere to strict deadlines

Effective communication skills with varied levels within the organization

Proficiency in Microsoft Excel

Thorough working knowledge of general ledger and accounting processes

 Ability to work occasionally on evenings and weekends


Computer skills

 Advanced Microsoft Excel skills preferred

 Experience with computerized accounting software preferred
