WORCESTER, Mass.— Holy Cross Athletics has announced that the 2021 Ice Breaker Tournament, hosted in conjunction with College Hockey Inc. and the Hockey Commissioners Association, will now be played at the DCU Center in downtown Worcester. The four-team season-opening tournament featuring Holy Cross, Quinnipiac, Northeastern and Boston College is set to take place on Oct. 8-9, and single- and two-day passes are now available for purchase.
The move -- made to keep an unparalleled fan and player experience at the forefront throughout the event -- comes following a delay in videoboard installations inside the Hart Center Rink and Arena due to COVID-19-related supply chain setbacks. Moving the tournament to the DCU Center prioritizes fan experience, offers more opportunity for people to attend and continues to strengthen the connection between Holy Cross, downtown Worcester, and the entire Worcester community.
“What an incredible opportunity for the greater Worcester community to come out and create an environment that shows the vibrancy and passion of our city,” said Director of Athletics Marcus Blossom. “We were excited to pack the Hart Center for this special event, and while we have the capacity to accommodate our campus community, we knew we would be without a lot of our great Worcester hockey fans. Now, with the support of fans all across Worcester, we can fill the DCU Center and create an even more competitive and exciting environment for fans and athletes alike. I hope to see all of Worcester turn out in purple to support the Crusaders and enjoy two great days of hockey downtown.”
The two-day event will feature four predetermined matchups. On Friday, Oct. 8, Boston College and Quinnipiac will face off at 4:30 p.m. before Holy Cross hosts Northeastern at 7:30 p.m. Saturday’s matchups begin with the Bobcats vs. the Huskies, as the Crusaders take on the Eagles in the 7:30 p.m. nightcap.
Single-day passes are available now for $30 while two-day passes are available for $50. Tickets to the event can be purchased on Ticketmaster. Students at the four participating institutions can contact their ticket offices directly to purchase tickets for $25 for a single-day pass and $40 for the two-day event. College students across the Worcester area can take advantage of student pricing by showing a valid school ID at the DCU Center box office.
