MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Must be at least 18 years of age.
REQUIREMENTS: Being able to work outside in winter months and during weekends.
NATURE OF WORK PERFORMED: This position works at the City’s Oval Ice Rink, located behind City Hall, 455 Main St. Worcester MA., and is responsible for the supervision of skaters and enforcement of rink rules and polices to ensure safety. This position is seasonal, running from November through Feb. Other shifts may be available for special events.
EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED: Alertly and actively provides supervision of skaters during the rink’s public skating sessions and enforces and models posted ice rink rules; addresses any issues with patrons who are not following safety rules; assists patrons with questions and concerns; identifies any potential hazards or issues and informs supervisor and/or maintenance staff when necessary; assists with other duties as needed (i.e. assist in handing out skates, ice maintenance, laying out and removing rubber matting, assist removing snow from the ice surface and entrances of the rink, etc.).
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: ability to ice skate proficiently (1 year minimum); customer service experience preferred; ability to communicate well with others and enforce safety rules; ability to work in cold temperatures, assist to carry 60lbs of matting.
