The Worcester Railers HC have made it into the coveted Kelly Cup Playoffs!
On October 14th, 2017 our storied arena ice saw fit to grant hockey fans with another truly magical and historic evening.
The Worcester Railers Hockey Club packed the house with 12,000+ fans for the opening night of their inaugural season. It was the most tickets ever sold for a new hockey club’s season opener here at the DCU Center. If you were here to experience it, you can understand why the energy felt throughout the arena that night is something that captured the hearts of so many.
And the Railers have gracefully carried that magic with them through all 72 games they’ve played within their first season.
It wasn’t always beautiful, and it wasn’t always easy for the team. As many who have followed the team will tell you, it couldn’t have been predicted several months ago that they would make the playoffs. But, in what feels like true Worcester fashion – a constantly surprising city, they prevailed and fought for their spot.
And earned it.
Here’s a little recap from the Railers HC themselves:
The Worcester Railers were 16 points behind the Wheeling Nailers on January 25 and were in 6thplace in the North Division. The Railers have posted a 22-8-1-2 record since, which included a 15-3-1-0 record at the DCU Center. Worcester finished with a 11-2-1 in their last 14 games overall outscoring their opponents 34-20. The Railers went 8-2-2-0 vs. the Adirondack Thunder this season which includes a 5-1-1-0 record at the Cool Insuring Arena.
The playoffs begin this Friday, April 13th at the Adirondack Thunder and then roll back into Worcester with 2 games this weekend vs. the Thunder. The Railers have met the Thunder on the ice 12 times this season. In a best out of seven series, the Railers will fight to continue on for a chance to win the Kelly Cup. We’ll be there watching the magic happen – and we hope you will be too.
